Everyone has the right to light

The whole project was created in The Philippines, after the finding of widespread poverty despite the rich natural and human resources of the country. The founder, Sergio Boero, wondered how his intervention could have been a help to those people, coming up with an answer: light.
In 1989, immediately after one of the strongest typhoons The Philippines had ever seen, Sergio and his former partner Luca Vezzaro saw how the availability of light meant the difference between life and death, hope and hopelessness: it was a new start. People needed an affordable, renewable source of light useful in such disaster situations. This is how the Sunny Sonny Story came to life.

In November 2016, Sunny Sonny Story was proudly accredited by the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Mission

“With this simple initiative of providing sustainable light, we hope to foster greater community well-being, bringing them closer to their dreams of a brighter future.”

Sunny Sonny Story aims to nurture hope in the hearts of all those communities around the world who live without electricity, by providing solar-powered inflatable lanterns that can help them with their daily lives. The project wants to raise awareness about the world’s fundamental needs, understanding how light is a good that we take for granted that can truly make a difference to some.
